Air Borne Dance Theater

Artistry, Not Disability

Air Borne Dance Theater was founded by Artistic Director Cornelia Kip Lee in January, 2006, through grants from the Mary Duke Biddle Foundation and Thomas S. Kenan Foundation.

Air Borne is one of a handful of physically integrated dance companies in the U.S. performing work created by dancers with and without disabilities. Our focus is on artistry, not disability. When an Air Borne dancer uses a wheelchair or other mobility device, it presents interesting movement opportunities and challenges, but it is not our focus. Our programs give persons with disabilities, and everyone with some kind of limitation, the opportunity to explore their unique movement vocabulary and the process of making dance with others, gain a new sense of themselves as whole and perfect just as they are, and experience the joy of physicality.

Air Borne Dance Theatre is a member of the NC Dance Alliance, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization.
