Welcome to Air Borne Dance Theater
Air Borne Dance Theater expands the boundaries and perceptions of modern dance, inspires audiences and participants to achieve their highest aspirations, promotes the inclusion of persons with disabilities in the performing arts, and makes dance accessible to everyone.
About
Artistry, Not Disability
Air Borne is one of a handful of physically integrated dance companies in the U.S. performing work created by dancers with and without disabilities. Our focus is on artistry, not disability.
Air Borne Dance Theater was founded by Artistic Director Cornelia Kip Lee in January, 2006, through grants from the Mary Duke Biddle Foundation and Thomas S. Kenan Foundation.
Founder's Story
An Unlikely Dancer’s Story
I have been passionate about dance since I was a little girl. I had—and have—an extra sensitivity to the joy of movement, because the ability to move was snatched from me very early in life, when I contracted polio just after I learned how to walk.
